May flower exhibition at the Volčji Potok Arboretum


Every year around May 1st, thousands of flowers bloom at the Volčji Potok Arboretum, attracting multitudes of visitors to the park.

The Volčji Potok and the area of the present Arboretum was mentioned by Janez Vajkard Valvasor in his Glory of the Duchy of Carniola in 1689. To stand out is especially the image of the castle mansion which no longer exists today, as it was burnt down during the second world war.

The annual May exhibition of flowers is traditionally one of the biggest events in Kamnik. From mid April to the beginning of May, there are all tulips of all varieties an colours blooming at the park. The fields of flowers await the visitors at the very entrance to the park, and accompany them throughout their walk. There are more than 2 million tulips inviting curious visitors, some of whom just like to come walk around the neatly arranged paths along the forest, among meadows and along the lakes. In addition to the lush flourishing park, visitors can enjoy a number of different interesting exhibitions as well. A visitor might thus very well encounter a dinosaur or a whale.


Since the end of the 19th century when the castle was owned by the Souvan family, the park has been meticulously maintained, which continued in the 20th century as well.
